🌿 OLinWASTE expands with a new Hop‑On activity: OLinWASTE‑LIGNADES
We are pleased to announce the launch of OLinWASTE‑LIGNADES, a Horizon Europe WIDERA Hop‑On project that further strengthens the OLinWASTE initiative. Building on OLinWASTE’s zero‑emission biorefinery concept, the new activity focuses on the sustainable valorisation of lignin‑rich side streams from olive mill waste, including currently underutilised residues.
Coordinated by Sapienza University of Rome and welcoming a new partner, the University of Aveiro, OLinWASTE‑LIGNADES introduces Natural Deep Eutectic Solvents (NADES) as an eco‑friendly platform for selective lignin extraction. The recovered lignin will be used to develop functional bio‑based packaging films and nano‑enabled plant bioprotectants, contributing to circular, zero‑waste bioeconomy solutions.
Starting in May 2026 and running for 36 months, the project strengthens sustainable innovation in the olive oil sector and supports zero‑pollution biorefinery pathways at European level.
